Double “Happiness” Symbol
Professional Project - to create a poly cut out of the double “happiness” symbol for National Film & Television School (NFTS) student project “Red Egg & Ginger Party” (Jun 2024)
Main Materials: Polystyrene, acrylic paint
Techniques: Poly carving, paint
In June 2024, I volunteered at the National Film & Television School (NFTS) in Beaconsfield as an Art Department assistant building/decorating the set and making props. I was asked to make a poly cut out of the double “happiness” symbol in Chinese text. It was a simple poly carve. Here’s how it was made.
A paper template was printed and used to transfer the shapes onto a single Poly slab. A Hot wire was used to follow the template and cut out the shape. Rough edges were sanded down and the whole piece was sealed with Flexibond before painting.
The face of the shape was painted red, all other faces and borders were painted in black.
